The Salem district administration has sought a financial assistance of Rs. 4.18 crore for providing compensation to the farmers whose standing crops suffered damages in the widespread rainfall in the district in the recent past. Agricultural crops standing on 3,884.49 hectares suffered damages in the entire district. The taluks of Attur, Gangavalli, Thalaivasal, Bethanayakkanpalayam and Vazhappadi are the worst hit. Various standing crops on about 3,700 hectares had suffered damages in these taluks alone, said N.
